» CubeSats: Go for Russian Launch

What do AeroCube, ICE Cube, KUTESat, SACRED, SEEDS, and nCube have in common?

They are among 14 CubeSats from 10 different universities and 1 private company set to launch today from the Baikonur spaceport in Russia.

The palm-sized CubeSats are nicely tucked away in five P-PODS – containers that hold the tiny spacecraft. These spring-loaded P-PODS will eject the satellites into their respective spots in space.

All of the tiny spacecraft are perched atop a Russian Dnepr rocket. This Cold War converted booster is to be launched by the rocket-for-hire group, ISC Kosmotras.

The CubeSat launch is coordinated by California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo.
