New York to Gas Geese Near Airports

The city of New York has long slaughtered geese around its major airports in an effort to prevent collisions with airplanes. This year it'll step up the efforts and gas some 2,000 of the large birds. The killing will take place during summer molting season when the geese can't fly.
The city and the Port Authority will "net and euthanize" the geese. It'll also step up efforts to train employees to shoot geese.
Not very sporting. And ultimately not a cure-all. The geese that brought down US Airways flight 1549, which landed in the Hudson Jan. 15, were migratory birds that are not in the New York region during molting season.
