A new survey finds fewer people perceive strong conflicts between blacks and whites compared with strong conflicts between immigrants and the native born, or between rich people and poor people.

Fify-five percent of adults said there are "very strong" or "strong" conflicts between immigrants and people born in the United States. And 47 percent said the same about conflicts between rich people and poor people, according to a nationally representative survey by the Pew Research Center Social & Demographic Trends project.

Separately today, new Census figures reveal that the U.S. median income dropped (no surprise there), poverty hit an 11-year high, and the gap between the poorest and the wealthiest grew. Income among the top 5 percent of households — those making $180,000 or more — is now 3.58 times the median income, the highest since 2006.

The survey found 39 percent believe there are serious conflicts between blacks and whites, and 26 percent see major generational divisions between the young and old.
