Why exactly do dinosaurs matter?

What can we learn by studying Tyrannosaurus rex's banana-size serrated teeth; or by figuring out that duck-billed dinosaurs likely traveled in herds; or by determining that Spinosaurus could swim?

Paleontologist Kenneth Lacovara answers these questions in his new book "Why Dinosaurs Matter" (Simon & Schuster/TED) released Sept. 19, and now a lucky few will be able to win a free copy of his book by answering a trivia question about dinosaurs. Live Science is interviewing Lacovara — the dean of the School of Earth and Environment at Rowan University in New Jersey, as well as director of the university's Jean and Ric Edelman Fossil Park — on Facebook Live at 1 p.m. EDT on Tuesday (Sept. 26).
