Tropical Nut & Fruit of Charlotte, NC, is voluntarily recalling all its products containing walnuts supplied by Atlas Walnuts, LLC after November 16, 2010 because they have the potential to contain Salmonella, the FDA announced.

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis. For more information on Salmonella, please visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Website at http://www.cdc.gov9.

The recalled products are sold in retail stores nationwide, distributed to manufacturers, and distributors.

This recall covers only the listed products that contain walnuts. No other Tropical Nut & Fruit products are affected by this recall. The voluntary recall was initiated when Atlas Walnuts, LLC recalled their product after they received a report from one of their customers indicating a positive result for Salmonella. Atlas conducted additional Salmonella tests on the same product lot and those results were negative.

Tropical Nut & Fruit of Charlotte, NC has not received any consumer illness complaints associated with its products. However, it is taking precautionary steps, including removing the impacted products from retail store shelves and the entire distribution system. Consumers who have purchased the recalled products should return them to the store where they were purchased for a full refund. Consumers with additional questions may call 800-438-4470 EST 8:00AM to 5:00PM.
