It may not break the top 40, but unhappy Pluto fans will probably enjoy this little ditty anyway. Jimmy and the Keyz has put the anger to music …
*** God, I hate the IAU/
They demoted Pluto ***
Hear here, some would say. (Find the song on the right side of his the linked page. Note that the kid’s voice on the song is Jim with an electronic “helium setting,” because his daughter kept crying when she tried to help out, he says.)
Also see Jason’s list of Pluto appearances in media and on clothing.
And don’t miss the first post by our newest blogger, Stephen Maran, author of “Astronomy for Dummies.” Steve has had his head in space almost as long as Pluto’s been around and he has some insight into Astronomers Behaving Badly at the IAU meeting. Welcome aboard, Steve!

It is said that you can’t please all the people all the time and I have sympathy with the astronomers who tried to tackle a possibly impossible task. As I explain in my own blog posting - http://skymania.blogspot.com/2006/08/planets-if-cap-fits-wear-it.html - I have come up with my own new definition for planets in honour of the deliberations of our masters of the universe, the IAU:
Planets - Great balls up in space

Like the blind men all trying to describe an elephant by touching onlt a part of it; the IAU is trying to define a planet based on their views of a single planetary system. What will happen when they finally see the planets orbiting other stars? There will certainly be some red faces then, eh!!

[...] Last week we were told Pluto is not really a planet. Today, contrary to previous research, a study reveals there is no “God spot” in our brains. And this one will really get under your skin: Sunscreen can damage your skin! [...]

Well, that’s what science (Unlike, for example, religion) is all about. Change.
Just as the definition of a planet got changes a few weeks ago, it’ll undoubtably get changed in the future.
Nothing wrong with that!
