Black Gold: Where the Oil Is
Fears over Iran's developing nuclear program and the prolonged war in Iraq highlight what President Bush calls
America's oil addiction. As the world's largest consumer of oil, the United States uses more than 7.5 billion barrels a year and imports more than half of it. More than 81 percent of the world's discovered and useable oil reserves comes from just 10 countries. The United States ranks 14th, with 1.4 percent of the global total of 1.3 trillion barrels. Scientists agree we'll one day run out, but they disagree on when because there is an unknown amount still to be found. LiveScience looks at where the known oil is.
