Baumann studied Egyptology, Prehistory, and Classics at the University of Tübingen, where he obtained his PhD in Egyptology (2018, summa cum laude) published as Schatzkammern: Ihre Dekroartion und Raumkonzeption in ägyptischen Tempeln der griechisch-römischen Zeit, 2 vols. (Studien zur spätägyptischen Religion 19). Wiesbaden: Harrassowitz, 2018.
Trained as an archaeologist, philologist, and epigrapher, Baumann has participated in several archaeological missions across Europe and Egypt, including projects at Athribis, Sakkara (Egypt), Pantelleria (Italy), Azé (France), and Rottweil (Germany).
