Alec Brenner is a geologist studying plate tectonics, meteorite impacts and the magnetic field of the early Earth. He applies a variety of tools to do so, most prominently paleomagnetism, or the study of magnetic records preserved in rocks. He specializes in studies of rocks that experienced complex histories of metamorphism and chemical alteration, especially by fluids such as seawater.
