Satellite Sees Hurricane Irene Hugging East Coast

Satellites caught this image of Hurricane Irene making its way up the East Coast at 9:38 ET this morning (Aug. 27).

Irene has already made landfall near Cape Lookout, N.C., at 7:30 a.m. ET and is pummeling the coastal areas of that state. The storm is now a Category 1 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale of hurricane strength with winds of 85 mph (140 kph). [Storm Targets: Where the Hurricanes Hi t]
