"Hawk" is an umbrella term used to describe a variety of raptors, but the so-called true hawks are mainly woodland birds that have sharply hooked beaks and powerful feet with curved talons. Their vision is legendary and they hunt using sudden dashes from hidden perches. Raking is another common hunting technique used by hawks and involves swiftly chasing an animal and riding it to the ground if it is a bird. Once they catch their prey, they dismember it with their sharp beak. Goshawks and sparrowhawks are also members of this family.
