Scientists have many theories as to why many animals, including humans, evolved to reproduce sexually, despite the costs of elaborate display to attract mates... not to mention the price of a movie these days. One study this year suggests that sexual reproduction may concentrate harmful mutations in individuals who can then be weeded out by natural selection, but scientists have yet to figure out how such a phenomenon might have evolved.
