What Is an IP Address?
The term IP stands for Internet Protocol and is a technology used by computers to communicate via the Internet. This is a set of rules that have been put in place that dictate actions on the world wide web that include online communication and data transfer. A complete IP address is composed of a series of numbers. These are set in a series that is used to send and receive data. A typical IP address can be either static or dynamic. A static IP address does not change, unlike a dynamic IP address that is assigned each time a connection is made to the Internet.
