There's no clear "best sniffer" in the animal kingdom, but one contender is the Gambian pouched rat (Cricetomys gambianus, a species of African pouched rat), which can be trained to smell landmines and has been used to sniff out tuberculosis in human patients.

But which species reigns supreme when it comes to smelling power? It turns out, that's not such an easy question to answer.
