'Stone Forests' of the Sahara

Tassili n'Ajjer National Park is part of the Sahara Desert , but doesn't blend in with the tan, sandy dunes.

The park covers 27,800 square miles (72,000 square kilometers) in southeastern Algeria and has the same bone-dry climate with scant rainfall as the larger desert. But the rocky plateau rises above the surrounding sand seas. Rich in geologic and human history, the park is a UNESCO World Heritage site .
