João M. Furtado is an assistant professor of Ophthalmology at University of São Paulo, Ribeirão Preto Medical School. Prior to that, Furtado worked in the Division of International Ophthalmology, Casey Eye Institute, Oregon Health & Science University, in Portland. His main science interests and research focus on the causes of ocular inflammation and infection; Furtado also focuses on public health in ophthalmology. His popular science writing has appeared on The Conversation.
