In Photos: The Stunning Gila Wilderness Area

The Gila Wilderness area remains an unspoiled natural region. Much of the wilderness area looks today like what the ancient Tularosa Mogollon culture would have seen and experienced as they climbed to their cliff-top caves. The region remains rich in old growth forest with an abundance of wildlife that includes bald eagles, black bears, bighorn sheep and Mexican gray wolves. Although the region's reputation may not be as popular as other North American destinations, visiting the Gila Wilderness is one opportunity to experience the natural environment of the continent when it was still undisturbed by man.
