<p>Some of the best star and night sky projectors are those that are genuinely useful <a href="https://www.livescience.com/search?searchTerm=STEM">STEM</a> (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) teaching and learning tools. In a classroom or even a home-learning setup, they can help visualise big ideas, enable children to practice observation skills and spark enquiry-led activities that go beyond the realm of space and into how we deal with scientific problems more generally.</p><p>When it comes to buying one of the <a href="https://www.livescience.com/space/best-star-projectors">best star projectors</a> on the market, if you’re buying for younger children, the sweet spot is often a projector that’s robust, easy to operate and paired with prompts that can turn visually impressive starscapes into learning opportunities. For teens and adults, look for sharper optics, better coverage, quieter operation and more flexibility. Things like timers, accurate rotation and fine focus allow greater control, so the projector can double as a calm, distraction-free tool for independent study or planetarium-style demos. </p><p>In this article, we’ll dive into a collection of some of the best star projectors for a learning environment, detailing the pros, cons and what to look for with each product.</p><h3 class="article-body__section" id="section-the-quick-list"><span>The quick list</span></h3> <div class="featured_product_block featured_block_hero" data-id="48bd1b46-c816-4e73-8f81-2f8910a69acf"> <a href="#section-best-overall" data-model-name="POCOCO Galaxy Star Projector" data-model-brand="" ><div class='product-image-widthsetter'><p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';><img style="width: 100%" class="featured_image" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/umtLB3SkNgoZdsWREje48V.jpg" alt="Pococo galaxy projector on a white background"><span class='featured__label hero__label'>Best overall</span></p></div></a> <div class="featured_product_details_wrapper"> <div class="featured_product_title_wrapper"> <div class="featured__title">Pococo Galaxy Projector</div> <div class="stars__reviews"><span itemprop="reviewRating" itemscope itemtype="http://schema.org/Rating" class="chunk rating"><span class="icon icon-star"> </span><span class="icon icon-star"> </span><span class="icon icon-star"> </span><span class="icon icon-star"> </span><meta itemprop="bestRating" content="100.0" /><meta itemprop="worstRating" content="0.0" /><meta itemprop="ratingValue" content="80" /></span></div> </div> <div class="subtitle__description"> <p><p><em><strong>Best overall</strong></em></p><p>With a large catalog of available slides, this star projector is the best option to help kids learn about space. <strong>POCOCO Galaxy Projector:</strong> A strong STEM option for older kids and adults. In our previous four-star <a href="https://www.livescience.com/space/pococo-galaxy-star-projector-review">POCOCO Galaxy star projector review</a>, we noted the simple three-button operation (power, rotation, sleep timer) and the absence of extra gimmicks, which is beneficial when trying to keep attention on the learning qualities of a projector rather than what else it can offer. </p><p>The biggest draw is the high-quality photographic look that comes from the included dicks. POCOCO markets an optical setup with multiple lenses and high-resolution discs, and in practice, the better discs can look impressively crisp for the money. We think that the result is a projection that feels closer to a mini exhibition than a novelty toy. In a STEM learning environment, this makes it ideal for small-group discussions, as the images are clear </p><p>If you want a smart-home experience, voice control or built-in soundscapes, this isn’t for you, and because the content is disc-driven, expanding the curriculum often means buying more discs. But in return, you get a device that’s easy to set up, predictable to run and genuinely effective for inquiry-led STEM activities with high-quality, realistic images.</p><ul><li><strong>Read our full </strong><a href="https://www.livescience.com/space/pococo-galaxy-star-projector-review"><strong>POCOCO Galaxy Projector review</strong></a></li></ul><div ><table><thead><tr><th class="firstcol " ><p>Attributes</p></th><th ><p>Notes</p></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td class="firstcol " ><p>Design</p></td><td ><p>Simple, discreet design.</p></td></tr><tr><td class="firstcol " ><p>Performance</p></td><td ><p>Excellent quality projections, even in the daytime.</p></td></tr><tr><td class="firstcol " ><p>Functionality</p></td><td ><p>Rechargeable with simple operation.</p></td></tr></tbody></table></div><ul><li><a href="#main">Back to the top ⤴</a></li></ul><h3 class="article-body__section" id="section-best-for-current-night-sky"><span>Best for current night sky</span></h3><figure role="gallery"><figure><img src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/mKbG8z35jpJHpWD7QirEEk.jpg" alt="Product Photo of the National Geographic Astro Planetarium" /><figcaption><small role="credit">Amazon</small></figcaption></figure></figure><div class="buying-guide-block"><h3 id="national-geographic-astro-planetarium"><span class="title__text">National Geographic Astro Planetarium</span><span class="chunk rating"><span class="icon icon-star"> </span><span class="icon icon-star"> </span><span class="icon icon-star"> </span><span class="icon icon-star"> </span></span></h3><div class="_hawk subtitle"><p>An educational star projector to show you exactly what's above you in real-time.</p></div><p class="specs__container"><strong>Projection area: </strong>5.25 x 7.4 feet (1.6 x 2.2 m) | <strong>Brightness: </strong>190 lumens (at 2m ceiling height) | <strong>Media: </strong>Two slide discs (stars/constellations) | <strong>Sleep timer: </strong>30/60 mins | <strong>Power: </strong>AA batteries | <strong>Weight: </strong>27.34 oz / 775 g</p><div class="hawk-wrapper"></div><div class="icon icon-plus_circle _hawk">Date/time-accurate display is great for “what’s overhead tonight?” lessons  </div><div class="icon icon-plus_circle _hawk">Bright output and large projection help in bigger rooms  </div><div class="icon icon-minus_circle _hawk">Realism varies by disc</div><div class="icon icon-minus_circle _hawk">Needs a very dark room</div></div><div class="fancy-box"><div class="fancy_box-title">Buy it if</div><div class="fancy_box_body"><p class="fancy-box__body-text"><strong>✅ </strong>You want a classroom-friendly, planetarium-like unit with simple controls.</p></div></div><div class="fancy-box"><div class="fancy_box-title">Don't buy it if:</div><div class="fancy_box_body"><p class="fancy-box__body-text"><strong>❌ </strong>You want app control, true HD photo discs, or a modern smart-light feature set.</p></div></div><div class="fancy-box"><div class="fancy_box-title">The bottom line</div><div class="fancy_box_body"><p class="fancy-box__body-text">🔎 <strong>National Geographic Astro Planetarium:</strong> A strong teaching planetarium, and better suited to demonstrations than many cheaper novelty projectors. ★★★★</p></div></div><p>The National Geographic Astro Planetarium has clearly been designed with education in mind, so some of its features get our tick from the word go. The planetarium approach is excellent — the device is designed to project stars/constellations in a way that supports discussion of what’s visible on a given day and time, rather than simply bathing the room in a decorative nebula. In practice, that makes it much easier to build activities around prediction and observation. </p><p>With a projection area of around 5.25 x 7.4 feet (1.6 x 2.2 meters) at 6.5 feet (2 m) distance and 190-lumen output, it’s more capable than many toy-grade units, but we found that, like most slide/disc systems, the experience depends heavily on the disc quality and your room conditions. It does need quite a darkened, blacked-out space to get the best out of it.</p><p>It's nice to see some quality-of-life features, which will help when you’re using it for calm-down corners or sensory-friendly learning time. You can also connect it up to music and it comes with its own FM radio, which is a nice touch for home bedroom users. For educators, the overall package is easy to justify. It’s not the most premium projection you can buy, but it’s well-suited to be ready for the classroom straight out of the box.</p><div ><table><thead><tr><th class="firstcol " ><p>Attributes</p></th><th ><p>Notes</p></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td class="firstcol " ><p>Design</p></td><td ><p>Easy to use with a fun design</p></td></tr><tr><td class="firstcol " ><p>Performance</p></td><td ><p>Needs a dark room to get the most out of it.</p></td></tr><tr><td class="firstcol " ><p>Functionality</p></td><td ><p>Music and radio connectivity</p></td></tr></tbody></table></div><ul><li><a href="#main">Back to the top ⤴</a></li></ul><h3 class="article-body__section" id="section-best-for-classrooms"><span>Best for classrooms</span></h3><figure role="gallery"><figure><img src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/ratiZkAqC6dP5yxkyrknkA.jpg" alt="Govee Star Light projector on a white background" /><figcaption>The Govee Star Light projector has great projections and a good built-in speaker.<small role="credit">Govee</small></figcaption></figure></figure><div class="buying-guide-block"><h3 id="govee-galaxy-star-light-projector"><span class="title__text">Govee Galaxy Star Light Projector</span><span class="chunk rating"><span class="icon icon-star"> </span><span class="icon icon-star"> </span><span class="icon icon-star"> </span><span class="icon icon-star"> </span></span></h3><div class="_hawk subtitle"><p>This bigger unit is perfect for group demonstrations in school.</p></div><p class="specs__container"><strong>Projection area: </strong>650 square ft / 60 square m | <strong>Brightness: </strong>Not stated | <strong>Media: </strong>16 million color choices | <strong>Sleep timer: </strong>Yes | <strong>Power: </strong>USB-C | <strong>Weight: </strong>2.8lbs / 1.3 kg</p><div class="hawk-wrapper"></div><div class="icon icon-plus_circle _hawk">Excellent control for demos: schedule, scenes, brightness and motion management  </div><div class="icon icon-plus_circle _hawk">Great for larger, multipurpose rooms</div><div class="icon icon-minus_circle _hawk">More generic galaxy light than accurate planetarium</div><div class="icon icon-minus_circle _hawk">App/voice features can be overkill for some classroom environments</div></div><div class="fancy-box"><div class="fancy_box-title">Buy it if</div><div class="fancy_box_body"><p class="fancy-box__body-text"><strong>✅ </strong>You want smart control for a larger space, good coverage, impressive effects and flexible ambience</p></div></div><div class="fancy-box"><div class="fancy_box-title">Don't buy it if:</div><div class="fancy_box_body"><p class="fancy-box__body-text"><strong>❌ </strong>Your priority is astronomical accuracy over lighting effects.</p></div></div><div class="fancy-box"><div class="fancy_box-title">The bottom line</div><div class="fancy_box_body"><p class="fancy-box__body-text">🔎 <strong>Govee Galaxy Star Light Projector:</strong> A powerful, modern environment-maker. Control options are a highlight — this includes app and voice control and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. It’s non-scientific in the sense that it’s more about the effects than a true replication of the night sky, but you can set up scenes for different contexts — a calm ‘night sky’ for a space story session, for example, or a brighter dynamic aurora with RGB and effect controls in the app.</p><p>There are built-in sound setups, including preset white noise options and Bluetooth speaker functionality, which can support sensory-friendly environments or winding-down routines after active learning in an educational context. The speaker won’t rival other audio-first devices, but from a practical perspective, the level of sound and visual control helps educators manage attention and sessions remotely and with ease.</p><p>You won’t be buying this to teach constellations with precision, but it’s an immersive piece of kit. If we were to have one criticism, it’s that the motors are quite noisy. It’s best enjoyed in a larger environment, rather than your bedroom or living room.</p><ul><li><strong>Read the full </strong><a href="https://www.space.com/stargazing/astronomy-kit/govee-star-light-projector-review"><strong>Govee Star Light Projector review at our sister site Space.com</strong></a></li></ul><div ><table><thead><tr><th class="firstcol " ><p>Attributes</p></th><th ><p>Notes</p></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td class="firstcol " ><p>Design</p></td><td ><p>A large but smart-looking unit.</p></td></tr><tr><td class="firstcol " ><p>Performance</p></td><td ><p>Bright colors, but noisy motor.</p></td></tr><tr><td class="firstcol " ><p>Functionality</p></td><td ><p>Good BlueTooth speaker.</p></td></tr></tbody></table></div><ul><li><a href="#main">Back to the top ⤴</a></li></ul><h3 class="article-body__section" id="section-best-on-a-budget"><span>Best on a budget</span></h3><figure role="gallery"><figure><img src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/JyhnYFQdLbtXq4bF2kUbhg.jpg" alt="Review photo of the Brainstorm Toys Deep Space Home Planetarium and Projector" /><figcaption>The controls on the device are intuitive even for younger children.<small role="credit">Lorna Jordan</small></figcaption></figure><figure><img src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/GCoz9i7B6BW7GKdEXLL2ag.jpg" alt="Review photo of the Brainstorm Toys Deep Space Home Planetarium and Projector" /><figcaption>Project 24 color NASA images onto your walls — supplied on three disks.<small role="credit">Lorna Jordan</small></figcaption></figure></figure><div class="buying-guide-block"><h3 id="brainstorm-deep-space-home-planetarium-projector"><span class="title__text"><a href="https://www.livescience.com/brainstorm-deep-space-star-projector">Brainstorm Deep Space Home Planetarium & Projector</a></span><span class="chunk rating"><span class="icon icon-star"> </span><span class="icon icon-star"> </span><span class="icon icon-star"> </span><span class="icon icon-star half"></span></span></h3><div class="_hawk subtitle"><p>A simple star projector if you're on a budget.</p></div><p class="specs__container"><strong>Projection area: </strong>Up to 3 feet (1 m) wide | <strong>Brightness: </strong>Not stated | <strong>Media: </strong>Three slide discs / 24 NASA images | <strong>Sleep timer: </strong>No | <strong>Power: </strong>3 x AAA batteries | <strong>Weight: </strong>1.13 lbs / 513 g</p><div class="hawk-wrapper"></div><div class="icon icon-plus_circle _hawk">NASA imagery gives you ready-made prompts for planets, galaxies, nebulas and missions  </div><div class="icon icon-plus_circle _hawk">Slide projector format is simple, tactile and kid-proof</div><div class="icon icon-minus_circle _hawk">Not the sharpest</div><div class="icon icon-minus_circle _hawk">Less sky accurate than date/time planetarium models</div></div><div class="fancy-box"><div class="fancy_box-title">Buy it if</div><div class="fancy_box_body"><p class="fancy-box__body-text"><strong>✅ </strong>You want a STEM-friendly projector for all ages, with strong visual hooks and easy operation.</p></div></div><div class="fancy-box"><div class="fancy_box-title">Don't buy it if:</div><div class="fancy_box_body"><p class="fancy-box__body-text"><strong>❌ </strong>You need a high-fidelity star map for more advanced astronomy teaching.</p></div></div><div class="fancy-box"><div class="fancy_box-title">The bottom line</div><div class="fancy_box_body"><p class="fancy-box__body-text">🔎 <strong>Brainstorm Deep Space Home Planetarium:</strong> A great visual lesson-starter for younger learners. Simple, engaging and built around general space imagery that can lead to further enquiry. ★★★★</p></div></div><p>The Brainstorm Deep Space Home Planetarium & Projector’s headline feature is its set of NASA image slides. In the box, you get three discs containing 24 colour images in total, which are projected up to roughly 3 feet (1 m) wide in a dark room. There’s also information about each colour image accessible online with a “secret code” you can enter — especially useful for classroom or learning environments. We enjoyed the hands-on learning experience during our full <a href="https://www.livescience.com/brainstorm-deep-space-star-projector">Brainstorm Deep Space Home Planetarium review.</a></p><p>Alongside the image slides, it can project rotating star or constellation patterns, which makes it flexible — you can run a short “mini planetarium” moment, then switch to imagery for deeper explanation. Add the night light dome, and the device also turns into a cool night light, so it’s also useful for kids’ bedrooms. </p><p>What’s quite nice about the Deep Space Home Planetarium & Projector is that it’s not trying to be a precision astronomy instrument. It’s geared much more towards use as a STEM engagement toolkit than an accurate star chart, so it deserves a place in this list. It’s less ideal for older students who want fidelity, but for primary school settings, clubs or family learning, it’s robust, intuitive and built around content that encourages curiosity instead of just ambience.</p><ul><li><strong>Read our full </strong><a href="https://www.livescience.com/brainstorm-deep-space-star-projector"><strong>Brainstorm Deep Space Home Planetarium review</strong></a></li></ul><div ><table><thead><tr><th class="firstcol " ><p>Attributes</p></th><th ><p>Notes</p></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td class="firstcol " ><p>Design</p></td><td ><p>Child-friendly operation.</p></td></tr><tr><td class="firstcol " ><p>Performance</p></td><td ><p>Projection could be more refined.</p></td></tr><tr><td class="firstcol " ><p>Functionality</p></td><td ><p>Motor isn't particularly quiet.</p></td></tr></tbody></table></div><ul><li><a href="#main">Back to the top ⤴</a></li></ul><h3 class="article-body__section" id="section-best-interactive"><span>Best interactive</span></h3><figure role="gallery"><figure><img src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/CnH3c8ge6Wscfe7CUV8aLG.jpg" alt="Clementoni Science Lab star projector on a white background" /><figcaption>A star projector with an accompanying app.<small role="credit">Clementoni</small></figcaption></figure></figure><div class="buying-guide-block"><h3 id="clementoni-science-lab-star-projector"><span class="title__text">Clementoni Science Lab Star Projector</span><span class="chunk rating"><span class="icon icon-star"> </span><span class="icon icon-star"> </span><span class="icon icon-star"> </span><span class="icon icon-star"> </span></span></h3><div class="_hawk subtitle"><p>An education star projector with app functionality and interactive features.</p></div><p class="specs__container"><strong>Projection area: </strong>Not stated | <strong>Brightness: </strong>Not stated | <strong>Media: </strong>3 slides | <strong>Sleep timer: </strong>Not stated | <strong>Power: </strong>3x AA batteries | <strong>Weight: </strong>1.37 lbs / 623 g</p><div class="hawk-wrapper"></div><div class="icon icon-plus_circle _hawk">AR/app angle supports guided STEM learning beyond the projection  </div><div class="icon icon-plus_circle _hawk">Brand positioning is explicitly science/learning, not just decor</div><div class="icon icon-minus_circle _hawk">App reliance may be a drawback</div><div class="icon icon-minus_circle _hawk">Battery-powered and rechargeables are recommended</div></div><div class="fancy-box"><div class="fancy_box-title">Buy it if</div><div class="fancy_box_body"><p class="fancy-box__body-text"><strong>✅ </strong>You want a projector that naturally connects to structured STEM activities via an app/AR layer.</p></div></div><div class="fancy-box"><div class="fancy_box-title">Don't buy it if:</div><div class="fancy_box_body"><p class="fancy-box__body-text"><strong>❌ </strong>You need a purely offline tool with no screens required.</p></div></div><div class="fancy-box"><div class="fancy_box-title">The bottom line</div><div class="fancy_box_body"><p class="fancy-box__body-text">🔎 <strong>Clementoni Science Lab Star Projector:</strong> One of the most education-forward options here and especially useful if you want projection and guided activities in one package. ★★★★</p></div></div><p>As you can imagine from the name, Clementoni’s Science Lab Star Projector is aimed squarely at learning rather than mood lighting or atmosphere enhancement, which makes it easy to justify in STEM environments. It’s positioned for ages 8+ and uses a high-resolution, ultra-bright LED projection. With an accompanying free app and augmented-reality star maps, there are features here that can turn passive viewing into structured learning. </p><p>The STEM value is in the bridge between what’s on the ceiling and what learners can do next. The AR/maps are particularly helpful for older kids who want to validate what they’re seeing and connect it to real sky knowledge. </p><p>If you’re thinking about a classroom environment, you’ll need to consider your school’s device policy — if students can’t use phones or tablets, you may not get the full benefit. But even without the app, it can still function as a stimulus tool for observation and discussion, especially when paired with printed supporting materials. The inclusion of a manual focus ring is particularly valuable in STEM contexts, as it encourages learners to actively adjust the image and think about optics, sharpness and projection distance rather than passively watching. USB-C power is another practical plus, making it easy to run from power banks or charging hubs without worrying about disposable batteries.</p><p>As with most disc projectors at this price point, some images are more illustrative than accurate and there’s no app or AR layer to guide interpretation. For primary to early secondary STEM learning, the Mexllex strikes an excellent balance between affordability, usability and educational flexibility.</p><div ><table><thead><tr><th class="firstcol " ><p>Attributes</p></th><th ><p>Notes</p></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td class="firstcol " ><p>Design</p></td><td ><p>Manual focus ring allows for accurate focusing.</p></td></tr><tr><td class="firstcol " ><p>Performance</p></td><td ><p>Easy to use.</p></td></tr><tr><td class="firstcol " ><p>Functionality</p></td><td ><p>Includes 13 film discs.</p></td></tr></tbody></table></div><ul><li><a href="#main">Back to the top ⤴</a></li></ul><h3 class="article-body__section" id="section-best-for-young-kids-3"><span>Best for young kids (3+)</span></h3><figure role="gallery"><figure><img src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/Ndo2XqPF62CGC8794sReUH.jpg" alt="Discovery #Mindblown Planetarium Space Projector on a white background" /><figcaption>A fun, affordable projector with decent projections.<small role="credit">Discovery #Mindblown</small></figcaption></figure></figure><div class="buying-guide-block"><h3 id="discovery-mindblown-planetarium-space-projector"><span class="title__text">Discovery #Mindblown Planetarium Space Projector</span><span class="chunk rating"><span class="icon icon-star"> </span><span class="icon icon-star"> </span><span class="icon icon-star"> </span></span></h3><div class="_hawk subtitle"><p>An affordable star projector for young kids.</p></div><p class="specs__container"><strong>Projection area: </strong>Not stated | <strong>Brightness: </strong>Not stated | <strong>Media: </strong>Three discs / 24 slides | <strong>Sleep timer: </strong>Yes | <strong>Power: </strong>3x AA batteries | <strong>Weight: </strong>1 lb / 453 g</p><div class="hawk-wrapper"></div><div class="icon icon-plus_circle _hawk">Dual mode (stars/planets) is useful for younger STEM sessions </div><div class="icon icon-plus_circle _hawk">Some good planet images</div><div class="icon icon-plus_circle _hawk">Slide set supports quick structured classroom activities</div><div class="icon icon-minus_circle _hawk">Slide projectors can be softer/less realistic than premium disc systems</div><div class="icon icon-minus_circle _hawk">It has more of a toy feel than education-dedicated brands</div></div><div class="fancy-box"><div class="fancy_box-title">Buy it if</div><div class="fancy_box_body"><p class="fancy-box__body-text"><strong>✅ </strong>You want an affordable, easy-to-run projector for young audiences</p></div></div><div class="fancy-box"><div class="fancy_box-title">Don't buy it if:</div><div class="fancy_box_body"><p class="fancy-box__body-text"><strong>❌ </strong>You’re prioritising sharpness and realism for older learners.</p></div></div><div class="fancy-box"><div class="fancy_box-title">The bottom line</div><div class="fancy_box_body"><p class="fancy-box__body-text">🔎 <strong>Discovery Planetarium Projector:</strong> A solid entry-level teaching aid, but there are better options out there for projection quality and realism. ★★★</p></div></div><p>Discovery’s planetarium-style projectors are often sold as a 2-in-1 experience — stars and planets — with a simple slide-disc system that’s easy for younger learners to operate with minimal supervision. In STEM settings, that simplicity is a feature and it’s nice to see good functionality without complicated extra tech or the need to connect to any further devices.</p><p>The set includes three discs with 24 slides in total, which gives you enough variety to run multiple short sessions without repeating the same content every time. It does feel a little cheap in terms of build quality, however, and like many affordable projectors, it won’t deliver the crisp, photographic realism of higher-end disc systems. </p><p>An older or more educated audience may notice this quickly. But if you have, teach or look after younger children and your priority is engagement and accessibility, it can do the job well. As a budget-friendly “first planetarium,” it’s best used as a guided teaching prop rather than a precision astronomy tool.</p><ul><li><strong>Read the full </strong><a href="https://www.space.com/technology/discovery-space-projector-review"><strong>Discovery Space Projector review over at our sister site Space.com</strong></a></li></ul><div ><table><thead><tr><th class="firstcol " ><p>Attributes</p></th><th ><p>Notes</p></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td class="firstcol " ><p>Design</p></td><td ><p>Fun rotating design, easy to use.</p></td></tr><tr><td class="firstcol " ><p>Performance</p></td><td ><p>Disc projections are small but sharp.</p></td></tr><tr><td class="firstcol " ><p>Functionality</p></td><td ><p>Battery powered only.</p></td></tr></tbody></table></div><ul><li><a href="#main">Back to the top ⤴</a></li></ul><h3 class="article-body__section" id="section-best-stem-star-projectors-comparison"><span>Best STEM star projectors: comparison</span></h3><div ><table><tbody><tr><td class="firstcol " ><p><strong>Product</strong></p></td><td ><p><strong>Projection area</strong></p></td><td ><p><strong>Brightness</strong></p></td><td ><p><strong>Media</strong></p></td><td ><p><strong>Sleep timer</strong></p></td><td ><p><strong>Power</strong></p></td><td ><p><strong>Weight</strong></p></td></tr><tr><td class="firstcol " ><p>Pococo Galaxy Projector</p></td><td ><p>130 square feet / 12 square m</p></td><td ><p>Not stated</p></td><td ><p>Projection slides</p></td><td ><p>Yes</p></td><td ><p>Rechargeable</p></td><td ><p>1.7 lbs / 771 g</p></td></tr><tr><td class="firstcol " ><p>National Geographic Astro Planetarium</p></td><td ><p>5.25 x 7.4 feet (1.6 x 2.2 m) </p></td><td ><p>190 lumens (at 2m ceiling height) </p></td><td ><p>Two slide discs (stars/constellations) </p></td><td ><p>30/60 mins </p></td><td ><p>AA batteries</p></td><td ><p>1.71 lbs / 775 g</p></td></tr><tr><td class="firstcol " ><p>Govee Galaxy Star Light Projector</p></td><td ><p>650 square ft / 60 square m</p></td><td ><p>Not stated</p></td><td ><p>16 million color choices</p></td><td ><p>Yes</p></td><td ><p>USB-C</p></td><td ><p>2.8lbs / 1.3 kg</p></td></tr><tr><td class="firstcol " ><p>Brainstorm Deep Space Home Planetarium</p></td><td ><p>Up to 3 feet (1 m) wide </p></td><td ><p>Not stated</p></td><td ><p>Three slide discs / 24 NASA images</p></td><td ><p>No</p></td><td ><p>3 x AAA batteries</p></td><td ><p>1.13 lbs / 513 g</p></td></tr><tr><td class="firstcol " ><p>Clementoni Science Lab Star Projector</p></td><td ><p>Not stated</p></td><td ><p>Not stated</p></td><td ><p>3 slides</p></td><td ><p>Not stated</p></td><td ><p>3 x AA batteries</p></td><td ><p>1.37 lbs / 623 g</p></td></tr><tr><td class="firstcol " ><p>Mexllex 13-in-1 Planetarium Star Projector</p></td><td ><p>Up to ~12 ft (3.6 m) </p></td><td ><p>500 lumen</p></td><td ><p>Interchangeable film discs</p></td><td ><p>1 / 2 hours plus continuous mode</p></td><td ><p>USB-C</p></td><td ><p>1.19 lbs / 540 g</p></td></tr><tr><td class="firstcol " ><p>Discovery Planetarium Space Projector</p></td><td ><p>Not stated</p></td><td ><p>Not stated</p></td><td ><p>Three discs / 24 slides </p></td><td ><p>Yes</p></td><td ><p>3 x AA batteries</p></td><td ><p>1 lb / 453 g</p></td></tr></tbody></table></div><h3 class="article-body__section" id="section-best-stem-star-projectors-frequently-asked-questions"><span>Best STEM Star Projectors: Frequently Asked Questions</span></h3><section class="article__schema-question"><h3>What age is a star projector good for?</h3><article class="article__schema-answer"><p>Most projectors work for kids aged 3 and up, but models with small parts and complex controls are better for 6+. <p>Brainstorm Toys (Brainstorm Ltd) has developed a range of educational and interactive STEM toys, including a projector and nightlight selection. Here we&apos;re looking at the Deep Space Home Planetarium and Projector. </p><div class="fancy-box"><div class="fancy_box-title">Specifications</div><div class="fancy_box_body"><p class="fancy-box__body-text"><strong>Size: </strong>130mm x 250mm x 320mm<strong><br>Bulb Type: </strong>2 x LED<strong><br>Laser: </strong>None<strong><br>Control: </strong>On body<strong><br>Rotation:</strong> Yes<strong><br>Sleep timer: </strong>No<strong><br>Speaker: </strong>No<strong><br>Projection Surface:  </strong>Projector 1m, stars not specified</p></div></div><p>It is designed to enable young budding astronomers to explore the wonders of space from their bedrooms, exploring NASA and Hubble Telescope images of spacecraft, planets and nebulas and transforming their rooms into the night sky thanks to the star projector function. </p><p>They can sleep under the stars or spot well-known constellations as they glide across their ceiling. Adult space fans will probably want something a bit more grown-up, but this is definitely one of the <a href="https://www.livescience.com/space/best-star-projectors"><strong>best star projectors</strong></a> for young astronomers in the making.</p><h2 class="article-body__section" id="section-brainstorm-toys-deep-space-home-planetarium-and-projector-design"><span>Brainstorm Toys Deep Space Home Planetarium and Projector: Design</span></h2><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:2133px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.26%;"><img id="GCoz9i7B6BW7GKdEXLL2ag" name="DEEPSPACEdisc169.jpg" alt="Review photo of the Brainstorm Toys slide projection disk" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/GCoz9i7B6BW7GKdEXLL2ag.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="1" width="2133" height="1200" attribution="" endorsement="" class="expandable"><a href='https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/GCoz9i7B6BW7GKdEXLL2ag.jpg' target='_blank' class='expand-button icon-expand-image icon' ></a></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="caption-text">Using the projector, project 24 color NASA images onto your walls — supplied on three disks. </span><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Lorna Jordan)</span></figcaption></figure><ul><li><strong>Three-in-one functionality</strong></li><li><strong>Child-friendly operation</strong></li><li><strong>Sturdy and well-built</strong></li></ul><p>The Deep Space home planetarium has been designed with multiple functions — it displays rotating constellations and stars, projects slides with images on, and can be used as a glowing nightlight. </p><p>The eye-catching purple and yellow box instantly caught our kids&apos; attention, who eagerly awaited the unboxing. Small grabby hands were excited to investigate the projector once 3 x AA batteries (not included) had been inserted, starting with the constellations and stars. </p><p>Initially, they did not realize there were two domes on top of each other and were initially disappointed with the projection — once they had figured out there was a top dome to remove, out shone lots of blue &apos;stars.&apos; </p><p>Spinning the projector on its axis, we found the slide viewer and tactile focus wheel. As with an old-fashioned overhead projector, the projector can be focused onto near or far surfaces to increase or decrease the size of the images. Image quality is maintained with minor focus adjustments, which our children managed to do intuitively and with ease.</p><p>We enjoyed looking at the images on the supplied discs (three included with eight images on each). Admittedly, on first use, our kids whizzed through the photos quickly before wandering off, possibly because there was no instantly apparent information detailing what they were looking at — more on that later.</p><p>The projector is navy blue and white, cylinder-shaped on a triangular base. The rotation is good, and it pivots vertically to access the different functions. It feels sturdy and well-built, the switches are large, and the battery pack has a safety screw. We likened the projector to a little robot, and you could quite easily add some googly eye stickers to make it look more fun!</p><p>Operating the projector with a single toggle switch to move between the planetarium and the projector is easy. The switch moves firmly and gives a satisfying click into place to the left, right or off position. The discs are fairly robust and slot into the projector one-way, meaning the projections will always be the correct way around.</p><h3 class="article-body__section" id="section-brainstorm-toys-deep-space-home-planetarium-and-projector-performance"><span>Brainstorm Toys Deep Space Home Planetarium and Projector: Performance</span></h3><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:2133px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.26%;"><img id="CoA85F48eUtUKUz29zregN" name="DEEPSPACEslidewithboy.jpg" alt="Young boy looking at and focusing one of the projector slides" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/CoA85F48eUtUKUz29zregN.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="1" width="2133" height="1200" attribution="" endorsement="" class="expandable"><a href='https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/CoA85F48eUtUKUz29zregN.jpg' target='_blank' class='expand-button icon-expand-image icon' ></a></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="caption-text">The controls on the device are intuitive even for younger children. This is suited to a young audience though, and LED&apos;s are safer for young eyes. There is an abundance of blue stars visible in a dark room, and you can overlay constellations to enhance learning. The stars and constellations closest to the projector&apos;s position are sharper, the sharpness falls off towards the edges, however, they are sufficient for the young target audience.</p><p>Focusing is easy with a large tactile circular wheel. Our children identified how to improve the projected images and were intrigued by how it worked. It did not take long to achieve sharp pictures at widths up to one meter in diameter. We did find that the projector and the planetarium work best in a very dark room to provide a good experience, so you&apos;d need to learn together at night or use blackout curtains.</p><p>The photographic images (taken by NASA and the Hubble Telescope) are interesting to view; however, unless you already know what the images are depicting you may not know what they are. That said &apos;amazing online information&apos; can be found on the Brainstorm website when you use a &apos;secret code&apos;. Here is where you can find snippets of information about each projection slide photograph. Unfortunately this feels like a bit of an afterthought for Brainstorm Ltd as some of them aren&apos;t finished and end mid-sentence! Of course, it isn&apos;t meant to be comprehensive, and the idea is that parents learn together with their children, and use the slides as talking points.</p><h2 class="article-body__section" id="section-brainstorm-toys-deep-space-home-planetarium-and-projector-functionality"><span>Brainstorm Toys Deep Space Home Planetarium and Projector: Functionality</span></h2><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:2133px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.26%;"><img id="ZZxRznYRV9h79Vz3nmzSTg" name="DEEPSPACEdiskschild169.jpg" alt="Photo of a young boy holding the slide projector disks up to his face" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/ZZxRznYRV9h79Vz3nmzSTg.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="1" width="2133" height="1200" attribution="" endorsement="" class="expandable"><a href='https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/ZZxRznYRV9h79Vz3nmzSTg.jpg' target='_blank' class='expand-button icon-expand-image icon' ></a></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="caption-text">The disks are 'chunky' so easy to hold, and robust so they won't break if dropped by a playful child </span><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Lorna Jordan)</span></figcaption></figure><ul><li><strong>Hands-on experience </strong></li><li><strong>Battery-powered (3 x AA, not included)</strong></li><li><strong>Motor is noisy</strong></li></ul><p>Children like to discover things by themselves — the tactile nature of this device, including the intuitive manual focus, chunky projection slide wheels and simple operation, allows them to be in charge of their own experience.</p><p>As a STEM toy, the Brainstorm Toys Deep Space projector ticks the boxes as it is easy to explain and use. Flip the cylindrical body to view rotating stars or constellations, or put on the translucent cap to transform the projector into a glowing blue nightlight. Simple operation using manually rotating disks and a focus wheel lets users explore the functions independently. Hopefully, it provokes curiosity about space and science as a broader subject. </p><p>We like the portability of a battery-powered projector; it is safe enough for a child six and above to use without supervision in whichever room takes their fancy. Brainstorm recommends eight and above, but we think (and have witnessed) a sensible younger child interacting with the planetarium, and we found that was fine too. It can be put out of reach of toddlers and controlled by their parents.</p><p>We understand the logic behind the batteries as it&apos;s portable and safe, so your little ones won&apos;t get tangled up in wires or have a reason to go near wall sockets, but we would have liked the option to plug it into the mains — nightly use (especially using the night light each night) will quickly drain the batteries. </p><p>There is a constant whir of the motor when in planetarium mode; it is not too offensive, but this may cause a distraction for some children while they are drifting off to sleep. We likened the sound to white noise and were not put off by it; we quite liked it.</p><h2 class="article-body__section" id="section-should-i-buy-the-brainstorm-toys-deep-space-home-planetarium-and-projector"><span>Should I buy the Brainstorm Toys Deep Space Home Planetarium and Projector?</span></h2><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:2133px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.26%;"><img id="o6XiBwaB5zBfpeTE5wRzLg" name="DEEPSPACEconstellations169.jpg" alt="Review photo of the Brainstorm Toys Deep Space Home Planetarium and Projector" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/o6XiBwaB5zBfpeTE5wRzLg.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="1" width="2133" height="1200" attribution="" endorsement="" class="expandable"><a href='https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/o6XiBwaB5zBfpeTE5wRzLg.jpg' target='_blank' class='expand-button icon-expand-image icon' ></a></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="caption-text">The projections fill a good amount of space but lack the accuracy and clarity of more sophisticated star projectors </span><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Lorna Jordan)</span></figcaption></figure><p>Brainstorm Ltd has created a user-friendly STEM projector that is highly interactive and fun for children. If you can justify the price tag. This premium projector is based on discs of highly detailed NASA imagery to fill your space (rather than just meter-squared visuals). With expansion packs available to purchase, there are further opportunities for education and enjoyment. Powered by USB and 5-watt LEDs the Sega projector images are more visible in the light that the longer days are currently giving us, supporting parents with their battle for bedtime before dark!</p><p>Created by Bresser and National Geographic, the <a href="https://www.amazon.com/National-Geographic-9105000-PLANETARIUM-NAT-GEOGRAPHIC/dp/B00FQDWPNQ" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">National Geographic Astro Planetarium</a> has an eye-catching yellow and black spherical design and is marketed at children ages six and above. This is another battery-powered projector and therefore fully portable. Constellations are white and appear much sharper than those on the Brainstorm projector. There are labels on the constellations to aid understanding so users can transfer their knowledge to the real night sky. Extra discs can be purchased to increase your collection it has an integrated radio and speaker. The Astro Planetarium has a very competitive five-year warranty.</p><p>For a less &apos;educational&apos; star projector for your little ones, consider the <a href="https://www.livescience.com/space/dinosaur-egg-galaxy-star-projector-review">Dinosaur Egg Star Projector</a> that we reviewed recently. It&apos;s a novelty item that would be great to give as a gift to any space or dinosaur-loving child. It is mains powered and comes with a remote for you to set a timer to turn it off. For a novelty item, we were pleasantly surprised with the build quality and projection. The &apos;lid&apos; (the cracked shell) transforms the projector into a nightlight. It comes in at around the $20 price tag, which we think is more than reasonable to create an immersive experience.</p>

<p>Sega Toys has established itself as the leading manufacturer of home planetariums since its launch of the Sega Toys Homestar Original in 2006. Here we look at the 2018, and most recent release — the Sega Toys Homestar Flux. </p><div class="fancy-box"><div class="fancy_box-title">Specifications</div><div class="fancy_box_body"><p class="fancy-box__body-text"><strong>Size: 160mm x 160 mm x 150 mm</strong><br><strong>Bulb Type: 5-Watt LED</strong><br><strong>Laser: None</strong><br><strong>Control: Buttons on the device</strong><br><strong>Rotation: Yes</strong><br><strong>Sleep timer: Yes</strong><br><strong>Speaker: No</strong><br><strong>Projection Surface: 8.9 ft</strong></p></div></div><p>Aside from being seven ounces lighter, there isn't a vast difference between the Original and the Flux models apart from an upgrade from a 3-Watt LED to a 5-Watt LED, thus displaying clearer and brighter projections — many would say this is a significant difference, and therefore 'enough' to choose one over the other. </p><p>The Flux also has illuminated controls (for seeing them in the dark) and upgraded packaging. Let's see if this lives up to the hype as one of the <a href="https://www.livescience.com/space/best-star-projectors"><strong>best star projectors</strong></a>.</p><h2 class="article-body__section" id="section-sega-toys-homestar-flux-design"><span>Sega Toys Homestar Flux: Design</span></h2><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:2133px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.26%;"><img id="oYD3NY7DuBqKUbRGWG48QS" name="segatoyshomestarflux-onshelf.jpg" alt="Photo of the Sega Toys Homestar Flux next to it's decorative box and some compatible discs." src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/oYD3NY7DuBqKUbRGWG48QS.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="1" width="2133" height="1200" attribution="" endorsement="" class="expandable"><a href='https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/oYD3NY7DuBqKUbRGWG48QS.jpg' target='_blank' class='expand-button icon-expand-image icon' ></a></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="caption-text">The Sega Homestar Flux's packaging represents the premium price of the device. It can be used as an attractive storage box. </span><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Tantse Walter)</span></figcaption></figure><p>The packaging of the Sega Toys Homestar Flux is worth a special mention before we comment on the projector itself; it was a delight to receive, and it doubles up as an attractive storage box. Often with star projectors — in our experience — the packaging is obviously a second thought, and they usually lack an inspiring or attractive design, as well as being poor and flimsy quality. This model, however, stands out in a league of its own. While we are aware this doesn't affect the functionality of the product itself (aside from safe storage), giving a gift which you've paid a premium price for, you'd expect the first impression to be a good one, and that is what you are guaranteed here.</p><p>Moving on to the projector itself, the Sega Toys Homestar Flux is undoubtedly a smart-looking product. It is a spherical ball standing on affixed metal feet which are attached at either side. The satin black finish looks modern and premium, although be sure to keep a microfiber cloth handy to wipe off fingerprints and dust as it seems to show these up fairly quickly.</p><p>Everything about the projector seems intuitive. There's really no need to read the instructions to know how the device operates. Choose a disc (there are two provided), and plug it into the power. Flick the power switch, and you're away. The focus ring lets you sharpen the stars on the projection surface, as this will differ depending on the position of the projector and the distance from the device to your ceiling.</p><p>Although the Homestar Flux is often marketed as having illuminated buttons, which sounds useful, it is a little LED next to the buttons that illuminate rather than their labels, so you still need to remember which does what function. That said, there are only four of them so you'll quickly get used to it as we did. One turns the device on, one activates the timer, one is to decide the rotation direction and one activates the so-called 'shooting star.'</p><p>The stand can be positioned at any angle with the sphere able to pivot 360 degrees. You cant pivot the sphere horizontally, but of course, you can just turn the stand around to face the direction you want.</p><h2 class="article-body__section" id="section-sega-toys-homestar-flux-performance"><span>Sega Toys Homestar Flux: Performance</span></h2><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:2133px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.26%;"><img id="P9QSQUBg6eaWErTVTruDyR" name="segatoyshomestarflux-projectiononceiling.jpg" alt="Photo of the 'Star and Moon' projection showing stars and phases of the moon." src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/P9QSQUBg6eaWErTVTruDyR.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="1" width="2133" height="1200" attribution="" endorsement="" class="expandable"><a href='https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/P9QSQUBg6eaWErTVTruDyR.jpg' target='_blank' class='expand-button icon-expand-image icon' ></a></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="caption-text">The projections are clear and bright, even in the daytime, though as with all star projectors, they are more impressive in the dark. This is the 'Star & Moon' disc. </span><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Tantse Walter)</span></figcaption></figure><p>If you've already done some research into this home planetarium, you'll have likely read how quiet the motor is when in operation. We were pleased to find this is indeed the case. When turned on, you can only hear the faintest whir when in an otherwise silent room; we actually found this quite soothing in itself.</p><p>The projection is astonishingly clear and vivid (once focused), almost to the point of looking 'too sharp' to look like the real night sky. Just imagine you're in a dark sky area without any light pollution and a telescope with the widest field of view possible, and that is what you can see on your ceiling. The 5-Watt LED will let you see the projection of the stars even in the daytime or with the lights on, but as with all projections, it's best in a completely dark room.</p><p>Given this is one of the most expensive home star projectors on the market, you'd expect the quality and performance of the product to also be one of the best. In terms of a star projector with an excellent build quality which gives a high level of scientific accuracy — depending on the disc used — this is true.</p><h2 class="article-body__section" id="section-sega-toys-homestar-flux-functionality"><span>Sega Toys Homestar Flux: Functionality</span></h2><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:2133px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.26%;"><img id="87uFBderWhEryHiLyNFEHS" name="segatoyshomestarflux-buttons.jpg" alt="Photo of the rear of the Sega Toys Homestar Flux" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/87uFBderWhEryHiLyNFEHS.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="1" width="2133" height="1200" attribution="" endorsement="" class="expandable"><a href='https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/87uFBderWhEryHiLyNFEHS.jpg' target='_blank' class='expand-button icon-expand-image icon' ></a></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="caption-text">The projector is controlled by using the buttons on the device. If you don't set a timer, the device will power off after four hours, regardless.</p><p>One of the key points of the functionality of the Homestar Flux is the option to extend your catalog of discs. There are more than 30 compatible discs ranging from exceptional pin-sharp views from astronomical observatories in other countries, the stages of a solar eclipse, to the more novelty discs like swimming jellyfish or balloons at a hot air balloon festival.</p><p>There is a shooting star function, which appears at the same place on the projection at a fixed interval. For us, this is an unnecessary gimmick. If it were to vary the location of the projection or if there was a variation in frequency it would be more realistic, and we'd like it more.</p><h2 class="article-body__section" id="section-should-i-buy-the-sega-toys-homestar-flux"><span>Should I buy the Sega Toys Homestar Flux?</span></h2><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:2133px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.26%;"><img id="bBjGv9GbhMuNdtZjTnTABN" name="segatoyshomestarflux-disk.jpg" alt="A photo of a Homestar Flux compatible projection disc being held up to a skylight" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/bBjGv9GbhMuNdtZjTnTABN.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="1" width="2133" height="1200" attribution="" endorsement="" class="expandable"><a href='https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/bBjGv9GbhMuNdtZjTnTABN.jpg' target='_blank' class='expand-button icon-expand-image icon' ></a></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="caption-text">There are over 30 compatible discs, this one is the 'Star & Moon'. </span><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Tantse Walter)</span></figcaption></figure><p>If you're looking for an adult, scientific star projector, and don't mind an initial fairly pricey investment, why not. It has more functionality in that it has a built-in speaker and a time and date selector, so you can choose to view what the night sky looks like at any given time and date. It's a little on the clunky side, though, with garish yellow detailing, so not as sleek as the Homestar Flux. You can pick up the <a href="https://www.amazon.com/National-Geographic-9105000-PLANETARIUM-NAT-GEOGRAPHIC/dp/B00FQDWPNQ" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">National Geographic Home Planetarium on Amazon for around $96</a>.</p><p>Another model would be the <a href="https://www.bresser.de/en/Junior/Astronomy/BRESSER-JUNIOR-Astro-Planetarium.html" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Bresser Junior Astro Planetarium</a>, powered by batteries. It has less functionality than the aforementioned National Geographic model, and the packaging is clearly targeted at young stargazers. Both models have noticeably noisier motors than the Homestar Flux and less clarity in their projections, but they also cost a lot less.</p><p>Finally, if you aren't looking for scientific accuracy and perhaps want to buy a space 'themed' gift for a young (or adult!) space fan, then the Astronaut Starry Sky projector could be a perfect choice. It is an affordable astronaut-shaped projector that projects colorful nebulae-inspired patterns and lasers onto the ceiling — both can be customized using the supplied remote control. The images aren't a true reflection of the night sky, but they still add an awe-inspiring visual to enhance the ambiance of any room. You can find the <a href="https://www.amazon.com/SunTime-Projector-Galaxy-Night-Light/dp/B09FL6YR9L/?th=1" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Astronaut Starry Sky projector on Amazon for around $35</a>.</p>

<p>In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Wal-Mart Stores Inc., of Bentonville, Ark. and Toys R Us Inc., of Wayne, NJ are announcing the recall of about 21,000 inflatable Banzai in-ground pool water slides.</p><p>During use, the slide can deflate, allowing the user to hit the ground underneath the slide and become injured. The slide is also unstable and can topple over in both still and windy conditions and carries inadequate warnings and instructions.</p><p>The CPSC is aware that a 29-year-old Colorado mother died in Andover, Mass. after fracturing her neck going down a Banzai in-ground pool water slide which had been placed over the concrete edge of a pool. The victim hit her head at the bottom of the slide because it had partially deflated.</p><p>The CPSC and the retailers are aware of two other injuries which have occurred in a similar manner, including a 24-year-old man from Springfield, Mo. who became a quadriplegic and a woman from Allentown, Pa. who fractured her neck.</p><figure class="van-image-figure pull-right inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:600px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:66.67%;"><img id="LdxpdonXcmW4zFvZYHKFSS" name="" alt="" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/LdxpdonXcmW4zFvZYHKFSS.jpg" mos="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/LdxpdonXcmW4zFvZYHKFSS.jpg" align="right" fullscreen="1" width="600" height="400" attribution="" endorsement="" class="pull-right expandable"><a href='https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/LdxpdonXcmW4zFvZYHKFSS.jpg' target='_blank' class='expand-button icon-expand-image icon' ></a></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class="pull-right inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: CPSC.)</span></figcaption></figure><p>The recall involves Banzai in-ground pool water slides designed for use with in-ground pools. The vinyl slides have a blue base, yellow sliding mat and an arch going over the top of the slide. By connecting a hose to the top of the slide, water can be sprayed on its downward slope. The words 'Banzai Splash' are printed in a circular blue, orange and white logo, shaped like a wave on either side of the slide.</p><p>The recalled slides, which were manufactured in China by Manley Toys, Ltd, were sold at Walmart and Toys R Us nationwide from January 2005 through June 2009 for about $250. The recalled slides have the barcode number 2675315734 and model number 15734. Both the barcode and model number appear on the original packaging but are not on the actual slide.</p><p>CPSC urges consumers to immediately stop using the product and return it to the nearest Walmart or Toys R Us for a full refund. Consumers can also cut the two safety warning notices out of the slide and just return that portion.
