Now, the Urevo Strol 2E has some downsides, too. To start with, it is not a good pick for sprinters or taller individuals. This treadmill is best suited for walking and light jogging, and that is because its speed is limited to 6.2 mph (10 km/h). It has a relatively short and narrow tread, making it somewhat uncomfortable to use for individuals with a long stride, and its maximum user weight stands at just 265 lbs (120 kg).

However, you would be hard-pressed to find a better value in this price range. The Urevo Strol 2E outshines its competitors with a good quality build, a quiet, powerful motor, and connected apps, and now you can get this budget gem for just $206.99. But hurry, Prime Day has already finished, so we don't expect this deal to last much longer.

Our friends at Space.com praised this compact, multi-angle projector for its minimal shelf space, whisper-quiet performance, and impressive lighting tech — features that compete with models at a much higher price point. It typically sells for $33–$40, but at $23.99, it’s an even easier recommendation for Live Science readers.

We were impressed by how small but mighty this star projector is — it barely takes up any space, so it fits easily on a bookshelf, nightstand, or gaming setup. It's also remarkably quiet when in use, making it ideal as a sleep aid since the motor won’t disturb you. We've reviewed some models that emit a noisy whirring sound, so this is a benefit that shouldn't be taken for granted.

It includes a built-in Bluetooth speaker and while the sound quality won't be the best you've ever heard, it's perfectly fine for podcasts, audiobooks or white noise. With the planets returning to the evening sky over the winter, a telescope is the perfect way to get a closer look — great news for those of us who aren't nocturnal and don't want to wake up in the wee hours of the early morning to get a glimpse. Our optics writer impulse-bought the Celestron AstroMaster 130EQ during Prime Day last year, and it's discounted again this Prime Day, selling for $251 at Amazon, which is almost the cheapest we've seen it all year.

Saturn has already made its return to the sky just after sunset, and Jupiter will be following suit over the next few months (it's currently visible after midnight). Plus, around February 28, 2026, you'll be able to see a six-planet lineup about an hour after sunset (Jupiter, Uranus, Saturn, Neptune, Venus, and Mercury). With the Celestron AstroMaster 130EQ, we have spent many nights (OK, evenings) out in our backyard gazing at Jupiter's four Galilean moons and Saturn's rings, and we think, for price versus performance, it's one of the best beginner telescopes out there.

The Equatorial mount setup is a nice challenge for beginners to sink their teeth into (especially as the instructions leave a lot to be desired), but once you've figured it out, it becomes a lot easier to follow objects through the sky as opposed to an Alt-Azimuth mount, which you tend to see a lot more of with beginner models.

It comes with two eyepieces — a 10mm and a 20mm — although we wish it had come with a barlow lens, like some of the other models do. Still, we'd recommend upgrading the eyepieces over time anyway, and this Celestron eyepiece and filter accessory kit is 26% off for Prime Day.

That said, these headphones are best suited for chilling to your favorite tunes, and may not be the best option for fitness lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. If this Pococo deal is still a little expensive and you just want some pretty space-themed mood lighting, one of the best budget star projectors under $40 might be more suitable.

The nights are drawing in, bringing more opportunities to observe the wonders of the night sky. If you want to get a closer look at the moon, planets and deep sky objects without the hassle of transporting or setting up a telescope, we'd recommend a pair of large astronomy binoculars. One of our top picks, the Celestron SkyMaster 15x70, is great quality, relatively lightweight and although they were cheaper during Prime Day, Amazon are still offering the cheapest price. Our optics writer bought them last year and uses them regularly. However, if you can stretch your budget a little further, the Celestron SkyMaster 20x80 are now even cheaper than they were during Prime Day.

These 15x70s strike a perfect balance of price, portability and performance, treating us to beautiful views of the moon, Andromeda Galaxy, Jupiter and its four Galilean moons and the Pleiades during our full Celestron SkyMaster 15x70 review, where we gave them 4 out of 5 stars.

While there is some chromatic aberration around brighter objects like the moon (which is to be expected at this price point), we had hours of fun with these binoculars, and they're a fantastic option to get a better look at the upcoming supermoons on November 5 and December 4 without breaking the bank.

The 15x magnification and large 70mm objective lenses are a fantastic combination for stargazing, but a magnification this high, combined with their size and weight, means they'll need to be mounted on a sturdy tripod to prevent shaky views. Luckily, a tripod adapter is included, alongside lens caps, a rainguard, a carrying case, neck strap, lens cloth and instructions. They're waterproof, but not fogproof, which is good if you get caught out in the rain, although we wish it were the other way around, given their intended use. Still, we've never had too much trouble with them fogging up.

If their size and weight are a dealbreaker, you can still get great handheld views of the night sky with a pair of compact binoculars, but they won't have as powerful a magnification. Or, if you want to invest a bit more, a pair of the best image-stabilized binoculars will prevent shakes at higher magnifications.

Our friends at Space.com recently reviewed this multi-positional Cadrim Star Projector and loved its small shelf footprint, extremely quiet operation and impressive lighting technology, which rivals some of that found in much more expensive models. It usually retails between $35 and $40, and while we're more than happy to recommend it to Live Science readers at that price, we're even happier to recommend it when it's available for just $29.

We were pleasantly surprised by the compact size of this star projector — it takes up hardly any space, so could be neatly slotted into a bookshelf, bedside table or gaming station. It's also incredibly quiet when it's turned on, a factor not often found in some models, including those that are more expensive. This is another great reason to choose it as your next sleeping aid — its motors won't keep you awake. Additionally, it features a built-in Bluetooth speaker, and while the sound quality won't win any awards, it is more than sufficient for podcasts, audiobooks or for playing soothing white noise sounds.

The projections cover a large surface area (your whole room, if you wish). The brightness, color combos and patterns can be customized using the supplied remote. The hands-on Cadrim star projector review found on Space.com likens the quality of the lights and lasers of this model to the much more expensive Govee (that said, the Govee is also discounted by more than 37 percent today too).

Price history: The price of the Cadrim star projector typically ranges from $35 to $40, but it's now available for less than $29. We expect the price to return to normal once Prime Day is over.

We think it's perfect for people looking for a soothing sleep aid, but it would also make a great gift for any space enthusiast or gamer. It would be a great addition to any house party as well.

Exercising on the go can be tricky. From luggage restrictions to poorly equipped hotel gyms, there are plenty of factors that can hinder your fitness routine. However, you do not have to abandon your workouts whenever you go on vacation or travel for work.

The market for portable workout equipment has skyrocketed since the pandemic, providing us with numerous opportunities to train outside of our home gyms and recreation centers. The question is, exactly which piece of equipment should land in your carry-on luggage this summer?

While yoga mats and adjustable dumbbells are excellent space-savvy options, their sheer size and weight make them impractical for traveling. Other pieces of equipment, such as ab rollers or skipping ropes, may be small enough to fit into your backpack, but can't be used for full-body workouts. Ideally, you want something that is both compact and multi-functional. The three types of workout kit outlined below tick both of these boxes.

You can trust us here. As avid travellers and fitness professionals, we have tried and tested plenty of portable exercise equipment over the years, and we know what works and what is not worth your time, money and the precious space in your carry-on. While we are fully aware that these picks may not be as good as your tried-and-tested rowing machine or favorite exercise bike, we hope they will help make your travels a bit more workout-friendly.

Best for light packers: Resistance bands

When you go on a hiking trip or a quick city break, the last thing you want to do is overpack your luggage. However, even the smallest of backpacks can still fit one or two of the best resistance bands. These pieces of rubber and latex can be indispensable for fitness-obsessed light packers — they are flexible, ultra-light and surprisingly effective at elevating your exercise performance.

Resistance bands may look and feel flimsy, but they can be just as useful for increasing muscle strength as other forms of resistance training (weightlifting, for example), according to a 2017 meta-analysis published in the Journal of Physical Activity and Health. Moreover, even some of the most advanced exercisers can reap these benefits.

For example, studies have shown that athletes who train with resistance bands can significantly improve their explosive movements (exercises in which you apply the maximum amount of force as fast as possible, such as jumping and sprinting), upper-body strength and other vital performance parameters. This effect was observed regardless of their gender and competitive level, according to a 2025 systematic review published in the journal Sport Sciences for Health.

That said, resistance bands come in a mind-boggling range of shapes and sizes, and they can differ significantly in terms of resistance or the type of exercises they are designed for. Some resistance bands are used specifically for glute training, such as this universally praised set from Spawn Fitness. Others are suitable for full-body workouts — this excellent multi-functional workout set from Bob and Brad, for example (pictured below).

If you have never used this equipment before, start with loop bands. They are some of the smallest and easiest to use of all the resistance bands available on the market, and they often come with manuals showing how to perform various exercises. We would specifically recommend the Smarter Life set here — loop bands can sometimes leave your skin irritated and smelling of latex, but these are free of latex and other skin irritants. They are reasonably priced, too.

For the more advanced, we suggest pull-up bands. They are longer and stronger, making them suitable for a wider range of exercises. Plus, they can be easily tied around a tree or a pole, so you can use them almost anywhere. While it is hard to pick our favorite pull-up bands, we want to single out our tried-and-tested set from BC Strength. This heavy-duty workout kit feels almost indestructible and has an excellent grip without being too harsh on the skin.

Best for variety: All-in-one gym sets

Resistance bands are fabulous for exercising on the go, but they can be limited in what you can do with them. This is where all-in-one gyms come into play. These innovative pieces of equipment consist of a bar and a set of resistance bands that can be attached to it, with some sets also featuring handles, footstraps, waist belts and other accessories. This way, you can do deadlifts, glute thrusts and many other movements that you would typically do with free weights.

While there are several good all-in-one gyms out there, we are big fans of the two sets made by Gymproluxe: the basic Band & Bar and the more advanced All-in-One Portable Gym. This fitness equipment won us over with its exceptionally light, compact design and robust functionality. The whole set fits into a small carrying bag and weighs just 4.4 lbs (2kg), so it won't clutter your carry-on luggage. At the same time, it allows you to perform over 100 different exercises with resistance as high as 200 lbs (90 kg). You would be hard-pressed to achieve the same results with resistance bands alone.

The cherry on top? Gymproluxe offers plenty of useful fitness content, both on its website and on its dedicated Gymproluxe app, allowing you to easily access information on how to use the set and find inspiration for your future workouts. Moreover, it comes with a supportive community — and this is not something that all-in-one gyms tend to offer.

Best for bodyweight training: Suspension trainers

Our third piece of travel-friendly equipment is suspension trainers — adjustable straps that leverage the user's body weight and gravity to build strength, balance and core stability (the ability of the muscles in the torso to maintain good posture and balance during movement.) Some of the most widely used suspension trainer sets worldwide are the TRX Go, TRX PRO3 and TRX All-in-One System, but similar results can be achieved with lesser-known, more affordable brands such as Bodytorc and Lifeline Jungle.

Suspension trainers may look innocuous, but do not underestimate the power of these simple straps. They can take your bodyweight workouts to a whole new level of intensity and train muscles you didn't even know you had. This is not an empty phrase: Studies have shown that certain exercises done with a suspension trainer (such as push-ups and planks, for example) tend to produce more muscle engagement in the core and upper body than when they are performed using bodyweight alone, according to a 2020 systematic review published in the journal Sports Biomechanics.

Moreover, suspension training may be more effective at counteracting the effects of aging than bodyweight or resistance band training, according to a 2021 study published in the journal Nutrients. Scientists randomly allocated 36 older men into three groups — suspension training, weightlifting and non-exercise — and instructed the exercising participants to perform a 12-week training routine. After the study had concluded, the suspension training group showed better muscle retention and hand grip strength than the other groups.

Suspension trainers are not only effective at improving exercise performance, they are also lightweight and portable. For example, the TRX Go set weighs only 2 lbs (1 kg) and can fit into a fanny pack. Suspension trainers are also exceptionally durable. Often used by military personnel, they can withstand less-than-ideal weather and outdoor conditions, and they are relatively easy to clean, too. You can use them outdoors without worrying about wear-and-tear damage.

Unsure how to use suspension trainers? Do not worry. Most sets, and especially those made by TRX, come with dedicated apps, booklets and other resources to help you master this piece of equipment. Suspension trainers take a bit of getting used to, but once you harness their power, they can become an indispensable tool in your workout arsenal.

Beginner telescopes are typically easy to use and very affordable, but they often don't last the user very long due to their simplistic nature. Once your enjoyment in astronomy grows, you find yourself wanting to upgrade.

The Celestron NexStar range is widely considered to be one of the best telescope ranges on the market, so if you can afford to spend a bit more than you normally would on a beginner telescope, the Celestron NexStar 4SE will amaze beginners and last them beyond beginner status. It has all the perks of other beginner scopes — user-friendly and quick to set up, plus the quality and functionality of more expensive scopes. We awarded it 4 stars in our review over at our sister site Space.com.

Plus, with Saturn making its return to the night sky next week after spending the last few months as a 'morning star', the Celestron NexStar 4SE is the ideal scope to view it.

We track the prices throughout the year, and although it's been cheaper in previous years (which is the same story for many of this year's deals), it typically retails for $749, making this price of $679 the cheapest we've seen it since April.

The Celestron NexStar 4SE is ideal for a backyard setup, and its sturdy frame reduces vibrations very well. We found the calibration to be easy to do and only took a few minutes, and the motors are smooth and efficient to get you observing in no time. Once you're up and running, you'll be treated to the instant wow factor of lunar and planetary views — we loved observing Jupiter and its moons.

Even if you have no telescope experience or prior knowledge of the night sky, this telescope is suitable for everyone and its automated GoTo technology and database will guide you through the sky, so you just need to select an object using the hand controller, and the telescope will locate and track it for you. While it's not the most powerful telescope in the range, it's still worth buying and will suit beginners for a long time until you're ready to level up.

We liked absolutely everything about it, apart from the huge price tag and the lack of a fully articulating screen. Aside from those things, the image quality and color accuracy are outstanding and its speed is blisteringly fast. Video shooting is enjoyable thanks to intuitive controls, and its real-time tracking and autofocus make shooting and capturing special moments worry-free.

They come with a carry bag and tripod adapter, which is handy as they need to be mounted on a tripod due to their weight and high magnification. We noticed some chromatic aberration around bright, contrasty objects like the moon, but for the price, we aren't expecting perfection. In fact, we reviewed them alongside the ED Pro version and we would regularly reach for this pair given the choice between the two.

They're a fantastic choice as a 'first pair of binoculars' and anyone who hasn't stargazed before will be thrilled with them.

If you are training for a marathon, or indeed any other race, the bulk of your training miles will be run at an easy pace. Race day might be haunting your dreams from the moment you sign up, but training for a marathon, particularly your first, largely involves running slowly. The goal is to gently build up the amount of time you spend running, until 26.2 miles doesn’t seem so daunting.

To support that, you will therefore need a good pair of everyday running shoes that suit you. Then, you might also want a pair of "fast" shoes for race days — perhaps a pair of carbon-plated "super shoes". And finally, you might think about shoes designed to boost your recovery. Sounds like a lot to invest in? No need to worry. Right now, you can save up a lot of money on running shoes in the Amazon Prime Day sale.

It's important, of course, to choose the right shoes for you. If you overpronate or underpronate (or supinate), you might need a pair with extra support in the right places. It is always worth having your gait analysed at a running shop to check, even if you buy online.

Of course, running isn't just about the shoes. There’s a lot of other kit that you can invest in, and we have reviews of everything from the very best Garmin watches to the top treadmills for home training. And don't forget that an important part of training for a running race is to build your strength with resistance training. You can also help your running by cross-training on another piece of cardio equipment

Everyday running shoes

When it comes to training for any race distance, it a generally accepted and sensible rule of thumb that 80% of your miles should be easy, with 20% (at most) harder. These harder efforts might include interval training or tempo running.

So for the majority of your runs, you need a pair of shoes that are best suited to easy-paced miles, and which will offer you enough cushioning to protect your muscles and joints from impact, without feeling heavy or too slow.

Some people like to buy two pairs of such shoes, different models or different brands, and rotate between them. The initial outlay might be more, but you should get twice as long before you need to buy another pair. The idea here is that the slightly different mechanics of the two different pairs might just help stave off an overuse injury from doing the same thing in the same shoes, over and over again.

If you are a neutral runner, then one of the best all-purpose, all-rounder shoes for your everyday training is the New Balance 1080. Now on its 14th version for a good reason, this is a comfortable, well-designed shoe that offers great value for money, and should see you through hundreds of miles of running.

It has plenty of cushioning but is still pretty lightweight, so that you never feel the cushioning is weighing you down. Indeed, although this is designed as a “high mileage” everyday running shoe, the 1080 is light and responsive enough that it can also cope with you picking up the pace on a tempo run.

With a plush upper that hugs your feet without weighing them down, this is a shoe that feels incredibly comfortable from the moment you first slip it on. It has enough grip to cope with wet pavements and even some light trail (such as gravel paths in a park) and wears extremely well.

Race day shoes

Since the introduction of carbon plates to running shoes with Nike’s Vaporfly 4% in 2016, the world of race shoes has been transformed. But what super shoes once offered only to elite runners is now mainstream at amateur races, too. The point of the carbon plate is to act as a kind of spring, driving you forwards — and evidence certainly suggests that they can benefit amateurs too.

Amateur runners wearing supershoes can get benefits in running economy, compared to running in traditional shoes. Strava data also shows that runners in super shoes tend to complete races 4-5% faster than those in normal shoes, even when adjusted for training and ability.

All of which means, for the amateur, that if you really care about that marathon race, and you can afford them (super shoes are more expensive than other running shoes) then it might well be worth paying for a pair. But with every brand claiming theirs is best, which one?

In recent years, Puma has revolutionised its running shoe lineup, redesigning everything from everyday shoes like the Deviate Nitros to its latest carbon-plated racer, the Fast-R Deviate Nitro Elite 3.

Puma has shared research on just how much its shoe can help you on race day. A study, conducted at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, by the same professor who conducted the original study on the first super shoe (the Nike Vaporfly) says that the Fast-R Nitro Elite 3 provides a 3.15% improvement on the previous Puma version (the Elite 2).

That might not sound like a huge figure, but for a four-hour marathoner, a 3.15% saving would equate to taking over 7 mins 43 secs off your time, without any extra effort. In fact, of all the 15 different shoes tested, the Fast-R 3 was found to have the best running economy.

So what are they like to run in? If you have worn super shoes before, you’ll be familiar with that "forward momentum" feeling that the carbon plate gives you. If you haven’t, it takes a little getting used to, though many are soon addicted to the feeling.

These shoes may look super high-stacked, but they weigh in at a featherlight 147 g/170 g (womens US 7.5 and mens 8). The upper is — again, as is common with racing shoes now — very thin, with a barely-there tongue and minimal padding. Sure, it won’t offer the same security and comfort as a standard training shoe like the NB1080 v14. But you won’t find a super shoe that does.

What you will get is a shoe that seems tailor-made to marathon pace running. That feeling of running on a springboard makes runs just seem easier, and staying on target pace for a marathon more achievable.

Like all race shoes, the main drawback is potentially two-fold. Firstly, some runners do find that the very different mechanics that super shoes encourage may lead to different types of aches and pains. Secondly, they are expensive. But if you save them for race day, can afford them, and really value that PR, then they will be worth it for you.

Recovery shoes

Recovery is an important part of training. It’s not just time off — it’s when your body adapts and recovers from the efforts you’ve put it through, making you a better runner. View recovery not as an absence of running, but as a positive part of your training. That might include taking stretching seriously, and doing strengthening exercises for any aches or muscle tightness you are prone to.

You can also use a foam roller to help reduce the symptoms of DOMS (the pain and stiffness you can get after a workout). Studies show that while their effect on performance itself may be negligible, rollers certainly can help relieve pain from sore muscles. Recovery can also include another, rather different pair of shoes.

OOFOS recovery shoes are designed to help your recovery by giving you support all through your foot, from the heel to the forefoot, but with a lovely cushioned bouncy comfort. They look a little like a pumped-up slider, with a big wedge of cushioned foam to support your tired and aching feet.

There is absolutely nothing better than unlacing (possibly with help) after a marathon and sliding your feet into a pair of OOFOS. It feels like giving your a feet a big "well done" hug. But you don’t need to save them for race day, because these are robust shoes that you can wear after your long runs, hard efforts or just when you feel like you need a little foot TLC.

Their proprietary foam absorbs 37% more impact than your standard post-run sliders, and they cradle your arches but also promote a more natural foot posture. Many runners with plantar fasciitis have, anecdotally, found them helpful too.

Some of the best models have even sold out. Thankfully, we have spotted a couple of excellent deals that are still alive and kicking.

The Garmin Epix Pro (Gen 2) Sapphire Edition, for example. Most models of this rugged multisport smartwatch are still available with up to a 45% discount at Amazon. True, this Garmin watch has been largely discounted during the last six months, but this early Prime Day deal brings it to its lowest-ever price. If you are looking for a premium military-grade GPS watch, this offer is simply too good to be missed.

Not a fan of Amazon? You will not be left empty-handed, with similar deals found at some other retailers — Walmart, for example. That said, they only apply to certain models of the Garmin Epix Pro (Gen 2) Sapphire Edition.

While we admittedly did not test this particular model, we did review the Garmin Epix (Gen 2), a more basic and affordable version of the Garmin Epix Pro (Gen 2) — and really liked it. This multisport watch impressed us with its glossy-looking screen, excellent GPS accuracy, advanced workout tracking features and reliable heart rate measurements. We liked it so much we gave it a strong 4-star rating, knocking just one star off due to its sky-high price at the time of testing.

The Garmin Epix Pro (Gen 2) Sapphire Edition is even more advanced than the Epix Gen 2. This model comes with a more durable build, improved sensor accuracy and longer battery life, making it an even better pick for outdoor enthusiasts and professional athletes. Thanks to its huge array of features, the Garmin Epix Pro (Gen 2) can even compete with the pricier Garmin Fenix 8. The best part? It is now 45% cheaper at Amazon and other retailers.
