Shroud of Turin Called a Fake

An Italian scientists says he has created a fake Shroud of Turin that indicates the supposed burial cloth of Jesus was also faked. It's not the first such charge, but it's among the more creative bits of research into the long-running controversy.

"We have shown that is possible to reproduce something which has the same characteristics as the Shroud," said University of Pavia chemist Luigi Garlaschelli, who present the results at a conference this week, Reuters reports.

The research is just the latest evidence suggesting the cloth, which shows the imprint of a man's face, is a forgery from the 14th-century , when it turned up mysteriously even though it had never previously been mentioned as something that should exist. Garlaschelli claims to have figured out how the facial imprint was made by experimenting with a sheet of linen on the face of a volunteer.
