This color-enhanced scanning electron micrograph depicts spores and pseudoelators of the hornwort Phaeoceros evanidus.
This plant species is found in Australia where it has been studied and imaged by Christine Cargill of the Australian Centre for Plant Biodiversity Research and artist Julie Ryder.
This image was submitted as part of the 2007 International Science & Engineering Visualization Challenge, an effort jointly administered by the National Science Foundation and the journal Science.
