Red-ruffed lemurs (Varecia variegata rubra) are highly vocal, sending out loud, deep calls over long distances to other members of the group. Scientists have recorded at least 12 distinct calls by the red ruffs, which are considered endangered due to hunting and deforestation of their rainforest habitat in Madagascar.
