Colorful Carpet of Cool Sea Creatures Discovered 2 Miles Deep

A new species of Ostracod, or a seed shrimp, was discovered from a depth of nearly 2 miles (2,700 meters). To see at such depths where light is sparse, the tiny organism has enormous eyes (orange-ish sphere) shaped to funnel any light toward the retina. Credit: David Shale
