Sea surface temperatures Aug. 12-18, 2004 show a plume of warm Bering Sea water in the area where separated walrus calves were observed. Black denotes land or sea surface areas with no data. White squares represent walrus calve sightings (with the number to the right) and red squares indicate other research stations.
