The golden snub-nosed monkey (Rhinopithecus roxellana) is endemic to southwestern China along the Tibetan plateau. The primate walks on all fours and spends much of its time up in trees, and when threatened the monkey takes refuge by climbing swiftly high up into trees. They snack on pine needles and young firs, as well as bamboo shoots, leaves, buds and fruits.

As suggested by its name, this orange-faced monkey has a flattened nose that's set back from the white muzzle. There are two small flaps of skin above its wide nostrils nearly touching the forehead.

The image is from the 11-part documentary series "Planet Earth," which is currently airing on the Discovery Channel.
