World's Oldest Man is WWI Vet

With the death of Tomoji Tanabe, a Japanese resident who had been the world's oldest man, British WWI veteran Henry Allingham, at 113, claims the title, Reuters reports.

Last month, the world's oldest woman slipped on the bathroom floor of an apartment that the state had given her because of her great age. She died at 130.

On average, women outlive men. Unfortunately, women suffer more ills as they age, too.

There are about 80,000 centenarians in the United States. Odds are most won't live much longer, however. Only about 1-in-1,000 people who make it to age 100 live to be 110. And only 1-in-100,000 of these go on to be 115.
