Clue to Why Autism Affects Boys More

Few disorders have spurred more controversy of late than autism.

Many people have speculated that vaccines are behind the rise in autism cases, though studies find otherwise. Another mystery: Why boys get the disorder four times more than girls. Now scientists have discovered a gene related to the risk of autism. The gene, CACNA1G, is more common in boys than in girls.

It is not the only gene related to autism risk, however, so much more research is needed.
