Phoenix Nears Record 14 Days in May Over 100 Degrees

Climate records are made to be broken, and this one's a doozie.

If the forecast holds, on Tuesday afternoon Phoenix will set a new record for the number of days in May hitting the 100-degree mark.

The current record is 13 days. Keep in mind that reliable climate records only go back to the late 1800s — which is why records get broken so often.

Today's forecast call for a high of 107 in Phoenix, which would tie the record for the day. The whole state is running about 10-15 degrees above normal.

UPDATE 5/20/09: With a high of 105 Tuesday, a new record was indeed set.
