Obama to Announce New Fuel Standards

Some states have been fighting for the right to set their own fuel economy standards that would be stricter than federal limits. But President Obama is expected to announce this week a new standard — about 35.5 miles a gallon for 2016 models — that some think will obviate the need for renegade state plans. The standard for 2011 models right now is 27.3 mpg.
