Should Couples Be Able to Pick Babies By Gender?

Census data suggest that among American families of Chinese, Korean or Indian descent, when the first child is a girl, the ratio of second children being boys goes up to 1.17-to-1, and if the second child is a girl, the odds of a boy on the third try goes up to 1.51-to-1 (a 50 percent increase), The New York Times reports.
This suggests sex-selection techniques available from fertility specialists are being used for culture-based decisions on which eggs to implant.
Last week, news of a home test for gender of a fetus raised fears among some that it could be used to make abortion decisions.
