More of the 3,142 counties in the United States are becoming majority-minority, meaning more than 50 percent of their population is made up of people other than single-race, non-Hispanic whites, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

No further details were released with this brief mention, made on the bureau's web site. A full report is due out Thursday, however.

UPDATE 5/14: The full report is out. Summary:

Orange County, Fla., the nation’s 35th most populous county, is one of six counties to have become majority-minority between 2007 and 2008.

However, the bigger Census news today, as detailed in the Washington Post:

Growth of population in Asians and Hispanics nationwide is slowing, due to the bad economy and immigration laws. But the country's overall minority population continues to rise steadily. It increased 2.3 percent in 2008, to 34 percent of the total population.
