» Bigelow II Space Module: Launch Delay

The launch of the privately-backed Genesis II expandable module has been delayed to early April - a slip of at least 60 days.

In a statement from Robert Bigelow today, head of Bigelow Aerospace of North Las Vegas, Nevada, the delay is due to a decision by launch provider ISC Kosmotras. That launch for hire firm is double-checking the return-to-flight readiness of their Dnepr launch vehicle that failed in late July of last year.

“Genesis II stands ready for its mission and we are putting this additional time to good use by testing and retesting its systems,” Bigelow noted. “If Kosmotras can deliver on its current schedule, we expect to ship Genesis II to Russia…at some point in early March for a launch on or about April 1st.”

Meanwhile, the Genesis I module lofted last year continues to circle the Earth, patiently awaiting its sister module and larger modules to follow.
