» Lunar Landing Craft Runs into Trouble on 2nd Flight

A second attempt by Armadillo Aerospace appears to have failed today at the Wirefly X Prize Cup. The craft successfully lifted off in a bid to win NASA Lunar Lander Challenge prize money.

John Carmack and his team flew Pixel to high altitude, moved to the side, then lowered down to terrain. But the craft touched down off the pad, falling over on its side, but apparently with no fuel leaks.

No word as yet whether the craft can be reflown as yet - although it seemed unlikely that the Armadillo team could continue in the competition.

Pixel flew Friday in an attempt to win the Lunar Lander Challenge. That sky trip was faultless like today, but came down on a landing pad too hard, damaging the vehicle - and putting off a needed refuel and reflight to win the prize money.

Stay tuned for later news on Pixel’s condition at the Wirefly X Prize Cup.
