Despite the sometimes unbearable heat wave that toasted California, the Northeast and points between during July, the month did not set an all time record.
It was the second-hottest July on record in the United States, NOAA said today. More than 2,300 daily temperature records for the month were broken in various locales.
The hottest July on record was in 1936, and the third hottest was 1934. Reliable records have only been kept since 1895, however.
