Best I can tell, this is serious. A press release today from the National Institutes of Health announces a continuing education class for clinicians and others in the health care field.
From the press release:
*** The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Office of Research on Women’s Health (ORWH), in collaboration with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Office of Women’s Health (OWH), announces the launch of a new online course, “The Science of Sex and Gender in Human Health.” The course offers participants a basic scientific understanding of the major physiological differences between the sexes, their influence on illness and health outcomes, and their implications for policy, medical research, and health care. ***
The course is available to the public free, but it is geared to people who really ought to know about this stuff:
“This online course will be an excellent resource for investigators and clinicians, ensuring a better understanding of sex and gender differences,” said Kathleen Uhl, M.D., Assistant Commissioner for FDA OWH.
And participants can get continuing education credit (if they score 70 percent or better on quizzes [hey Doc: try our Body Parts Quiz!]).
Okay then. As a patient now and then, I suppose I’d like the clinicians especially to have a good handle on all this! And I’d like to see those quiz scores …
