“Wild speculation†is what President Bush called the report by Seymour Hersh of the New Yorker that the administration was making plans to nuke Iran if that country continued down the path of developing nukes. Meanwhile, oil prices reach record teritory today on the associated nervousness.
So perhaps it’s a good day to point out that while the Bush Administration recently proposed not-so-tough new automobile fuel economy standards (and threatened to nix tougher state standards), a majority of Americans say in a new poll that they would seriously consider buying a fuel-saving hybrid vehicle. If, of course, the price comes down. Consider this for a moment. 57 percent of the people in this country would go green if the price were right. That’s an opening somebody should drive a hybrid truck through.
And how do you get the price of hybrids down? Government incentives could do it: a modest tax break for drivers who go green. Higher mpg laws would help. Or we could just wait until oil runs out (or China uses so much that even higher prices cripple the American economy), take our shoes off, and switch to Flintstonepower. My feet are getting hot just thinking about it.
