Among the largest of flying birds, condors can reach lengths of over 4 feet and can have wingspans of up to 10 feet. They eat mainly carrion, feeding off the carcasses of large animals such as deer or cattle. Condors spend a lot of time soaring in search of food and can travel as much as 150 miles in a single day. They will sometimes go for days without eating, and then gorge themselves in one sitting until they can no longer fly. There are two condor species: the Andean condor--which can be found ranging from the pacific coast of South America to the high Andes--and the California condor. The California condor is highly endangered, and there are currently only about 100 of them left in the wild.
