Previous Destructive Creatures
Known as ecosystem engineers, beavers turn streams into ponds by cutting down trees and building lodges and dams. Their dams slow water's flow, raise its temperature, and cut oxygen levels. While these conditions favor some organisms, those that depend on cooler, faster water die out. These busy builders cause millions of dollars of damage due to timber and agricultural crop loss, damage to roads, septic systems, and ornamental plants.
