Black, White and Honey
A steely-eyed Andean condor – the world’s largest bird of prey – perches at the Bronx Zoo.
Its wingspan reaches up to 12 feet, and it can weigh over 30 pounds. In the wild, Andean condors are found throughout Latin America.
The Wildlife Conservation Society is working to safeguard a key stronghold of Andean condor habitat on the island of Tierra del Fuego in Chile. There, WCS manages a 700,000 – plus acre wildlife reserve called Karukinka, home to condors, along with guanaco, culpeo foxes and the southernmost old-growth forest on the planet.
