Mother and Baby
A mother and her litter of red river hogs born at the Bronx Zoo.
Red river hogs are native to Central Africa, where they are found in rainforests, savannahs and mountain areas. They feed on a variety of plants and insects and use their powerful snouts to bulldoze for food beneath the soil. Males can reach weights approaching 300 pounds.
Though they are hunted by a variety of predators, including humans, they populations may be increasing throughout their range.
