T. Rex Link to Birds Holds Up

A study in 2007 that used soft tissues found in a T. rex fossil — including blood vessels — claimed to find protein sequences that seemed related to those found in modern chickens. That seemed to confirm other evidence tying birds to dinos through evolution.

But some researchers questioned the work, saying the mass spectrometry it was based on could have been flawed, and that the results might have been based on contaminated signals. Now a new group has restudied the protein data and confirms the initial results.
