Many creatures know how to make a predator alarm calls to warn comrades to get outta Dodge.
Among putty-nosed monkeys, "pyow" means "there's a leopard nearby," and "hack" means you should watch out for a hungry eagle. Wild gibbons in Thailand break out in song to warn of a predator.
But now scientists say capuchin monkeys can make fake calls, then steal food left by those who scattered. If this new finding proves to involve deliberately deceptive behavior, then monkey thinking more complexly than realized.
