Worst Coral Reef Bleaching on Record for the Great Barrier Reef | Aerial Video
By Steve Spaleta |
“This has been the saddest research trip of my life,” says Prof. Terry Hughes, National Coral Bleaching Taskforce, of a recent Great Barrier Reef aerial survey. Video from March 16th, 2016 shows reefs from Cairns to Papua New Guinea in distress. About 95 percent of the northern reef is experiencing severe bleaching, and up to 50 percent of the corals are expected to die, likely the result of warming and acidifying seas.
