This robot armpit was created by Kevin Grennan so humans could communicate with machines through odors and chemicals. Grennan augmented three industrial robots with sweat glands that use a specific type of behavior to respond to a chemical stimulus. One of his robots releases a odor with the sweat that is similar of human fear, Grennan said. Another one has the smell of a male sweat gland. Grennan thinks these smells can be used to help humans in dangerous situations or to simply increase productivity.
