Fault Behavior During a Strong Earthquake Simulated | Video

A simulated fault, made of dolomite loaded by a spinning flywheel, accelerates to seismic velocity of ~ 0.8 m/sec in 0.1 sec - equalling a magnitude 7.2 earthquake. The rock weakens very quickly and slips for 2.55 m.
